Abree Zipprich Shines, Striking Out 14 Batters as Valle Beats Potosi 3-0

(Ste. Genevieve, MO) Valle Catholic Junior Abree Zipprich was near perfect in the circle in Wednesday’s Lady Warrior win over Potosi Lady Trojans 3-0 at Challenger Field.

Zipprich, an All-State pitcher after last season’s Class 1 State Championhip, has picked up where she left off dealing early in the 2024 season. In her first start this year she held the Central Lady Rebels to one run on four hits while striking out 11 batters in a 2-1 victory.

On Wednesday afternoon Zipprich attacked the strike zone swiftly in each at-bat against. She ended an at-bat against behind in the count just twice in the win, struck out 14 batters, allowed just one hit, and was three batters over the minimum in the complete game win.

Valle Catholic (3-1, 2-0) gave Zipprich an early cushion when Makayla Joggerst singled to score Ade Weiler in the bottom of the first. Joggerst added a second RBI with a sacrifice-fly to right field that scored Addi Donze in the bottom of the sixth.

Weiler singled and scored twice in three at-bats. Zipprich doubled in the fourth, and Kelsey Blum singled in the sixth.

Zipprich retired eight of the first nine Potosi outs herself and had a stretch from the end of the first into the third with six straight strikeouts. She ended her outing retiring 10 straight Lady Trojans.

Lani Elder is tagged with the loss for Potosi (4-5, 2-1) giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out six. Potosi’s lone hit was a double by Lily Bryan in the fourth inning.

Valle Catholic sits second in the MAAA Standings, a half-game behind Ste. Genevieve (4-3, 3-0). The Lady Warriors meet the Dragons at Leon’s Field Monday on KFMO.
