Central Lady Rebels Capture First Conference In-Season Title Since 2019, Top Farmington Knights in Four Sets

(Farmington, MO) The Central Lady Rebels answer a first set loss with 3 straight to beat the Farmington Knights 12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 to win their sixth straight.

The Knights began the opening set on a 6-2 run that drew Central’s first timeout. Farmington led 7-6 after Central scored 4 straight out of the huddle. But the Knights exploded for 14 of the next 15 points extending the lead to 21-7 before the Lady Rebels used their final timeout.

The second set featured seven total ties and 4 lead changes. Central took an early lead at 11-7 with a 5-0 spurt, however Farmington had the answer with a 5-0 rally of their own to retake the lead 12-11. Central rattled off the next four points and led 15-12.

The Knights tied the second set for the final time at 16-16 before Central used a 4-0 to take a lead and hang on the rest of the set.

Central and Farmington went back and forth in the third set through the first six total points, and the Lady Rebels answered a 4-1 Farmington run with 6 straight to lead 10-7. But the Knights, again, fought back later to tie and take the lead 14-13.

At that point, teams would swap turns overtaking the other, and the match was tied at 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, and finally 18-18. Central closed the set scoring seven of the final 10.

The closing set began the same as the third. Tied at each point through the six total points. Farmington led in the fourth set by at least three points at 6-3, 8-5, and 10-7 before extending that advantage to five points at 14-9, 15-10, then 16-11 drawing a Central time out.

The Lady Rebels used two 4-1 runs to sandwich a Farmington timeout, and tied the Knights 19-19. Central used a brief 4-point rally, then held off a Farmington 3-0 spurt, and closed out the final set.

Central Head Coach, Olivia Casey, says the team adjusted well after the first set.

Farmington Head Coach, Haley Baker, says they expect to see the Lady Rebels in the Conference Tournament.

Central improves to 19-3 and 4-0 in league play. With the win, and Potosi loss to Ste. Genevieve, the Lady Rebels are the Regular Season Conference Champions in the MAAA Large School Conference. Central hosts Potosi on Thursday on KFMO with the top seed in the MAAA Conference Tournament, potentially, on the line.

Farmington falls to 15-13 and 2-2 in the Conference. The Knights wrap up league play at North County Thursday night.
