Central Lady Rebels Escape Annapolis With a 5-set Winner Over the South Iron Lady Panthers

(Annapolis, MO) The Central Lady Rebels reverse sweep the South Iron Lady Panthers for their 12th win of the season, snapping a small two game skid.

The 5 set thriller featured 5 total ties and no lead changes. In all 5 sets, the team that scored first won the set.

South Iron opened set 1 with a 7-2 run and continued the dominance to a 13-4 lead before Central rattled off the next 6 points to get within 3. The Lady Panthers wouldn’t let the Rebels that close in the set again taking the first game 25-17.

The Lady Panthers begin the second set with separation, again, 7-3. Central would later use a 6-1 run to get within a point of South Iron’s lead at 15-14. 5 points later, the Lady Rebels tied the second game at 17 all, however, the Lady Panthers went on a 4-0 spurt to regain the separation and held off a late Central push for a 25-22 second set win.

At that point the tide turned for the Central Lady Rebels. Out of the second set break, they began Set 3 with an 8-1 run. Set 3 started all Central, and ended all Central. At 17-14 later in the set, the Lady Rebels finished off the third game 8-1 keeping their hopes alive.

Central and South Iron opened Set 4 back and forth with 2 ties within the first 6 total points. The Lady Rebels used a 4-0 run to separate early on after a South Iron attack put the Lady Panthers within a point of a tie at 8-7. Central took the fourth set 25-19 to force the final game.

Central dominated the final set opening to a 4-0 lead, taking the fifth set 15-10. Blair Sitton, Madison Dunn and Avery Johnson led the Central attackers in the turn around. Unofficially, Sitton spiked 15 kills and 7 blocks, Dunn was tied for the team lead in serving aces with 4, she added 11 kills and a block as well. And Avery Johnson had 9 kills, with 4 aces.

After the reverse sweep, Central Head Coach Olivia Casey, says the win didn’t go as planned.

South Iron’s Head Coach, Megan Williams, praised the Lady Rebels after the loss.

Both the Lady Rebels and Lady Panthers competed in the Dig For Life Tournament in Cape Girardeau September 8 and 9. Central finished as Red Division runner up to Advance, while South Iron went 0-2-3 over the weekend in the Black Division.

Central improves to 12-2 and host Arcadia Valley on Thursday, while South Iron plays at Greenville and fall to 3-4-3.
