Farmington Completes Stunning Comeback in 4th Quarter to Beat Central

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO)  - The Farmington Knights outscored Central 28-0 in the fourth quarter, completing a stunning 42-28 comeback to finish up the regular season.

Farmington (5-4) scored on the first offensive play of the game, a 57-yard run from quarterback Brett Drye, but Central (5-4) answered with a long drive of their own, helped along by a punt that bounced off the leg of a Farmington player. Central quarterback Jaxon Jones scored his second TD of the game in the 2nd. quarter, with a converted 2-point try giving the Rebels a 14-7 lead at the break.

The two teams traded scores for a bit, but Central seemingly grabbed all the momentum with another Jones touchdown to make it 28-14, then recovered a ground ball kickoff that rolled all the way to the Farmington 11-yard line as the 3rd quarter ended.

However, it was there that fortunes quickly changed for both teams. Farmington got a stop, then scored quickly on an 82-yard run by Josh McCarthy. Another Central drive stalled out, allowing Kaesen McClain to hit the endzone for a 29-yard touchdown run and tie things up at 28. On the ensuing kickoff, Ian Zohner's onside kick went between the legs of a Central player, allowing the Knights to recover the football and march down the field yet again to take the lead at 35-28.

Central had one last chance to score, but Farmington was able to get yet another stop, taking the ball back and scoring one last time for good measure as the Knights finished off Central 42-28.

Farmington received the 3-seed in Class 5, District 1 and will host Poplar Bluff (4-5) on Friday. Central received the 2-seed in Class 3, District 1 and will host Kennett (0-9).
