Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) – The Farmington Knights are headed to the State playoffs for the first time since 2019 after beating Cape Central 21-0 in the Class 5, District 1 Championship Friday night.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Farmington found the end zone on their first possession of the second quarter. Tatem Tinsley found Nolan Blankenship wide open inside the five yard line with a 32 yard connection that set up Coy Fripp’s first rushing touchdown of the night from four yards out.
Josh McCarthy converted on the extra point and the Knights led 7-0; the score they’d hold into the halftime break.
The Cape Central defense stood strong with 12 seconds left in the first half stopping the Knights on the opponent’s 26 yard line.
Fripp put the Knights up by two scores one play into Farmington’s first drive of the second half with an 80-yard rushing touchdown. And after forcing Cape Central to punt it away for the fifth time, Josh McCarthy was targeted from 19-yards out for the lone passing touchdown on the night for quarterback Tatem Tinsley.
Fripp totaled 149 rushing yards on 13 carries, Tinsley ran for 105 yards on 18 attempts, and completed nine passes for 138 yards. McCarthy was a perfect 3-of-3 on PATs.
Cape Central (8-4) entered Week 12 with 2,139 total rushing yards, but the Farmington defense held them to just 95 yards on the ground.
KeyShawn Boyd had 19 carries for 69 yards, Torrance Murray ran for 68 yards on 11 carries, and Ayden McGuire completed seven passes for 45 yards.
