(Park Hills, MO) Greg Heiar is joining Mineral Area College as the 5th Mens Basketball Coach in program history, filling the vacancy left by Luke Strege who coached for 8 seasons.
Heiar has over 20 years of college coaching experience and was the 2022 NJCAA National Coach of the Year after leading Northwest Florida State to an NJCAA D1 Championship.
He has two stints as a Head Coach in the NJCAA. From 2004-09 Heiar led Chipola Junior College to an overall record of 165-15. He returned to the NJCAA in 2021 for a single season at Northwest Florida State winning the National Tournament with a record of 31-5.
His NJCAA teams have never lost more than 5 games in a season and won less than 27 just once when his Chipola led team won 18 games in 2004-05.
Heiar has a 196-20 record as an NJCAA Head coach. He coached last season in the NCAA at New Mexico State where they went 9-15 and had their season canceled in February. Heiar was subsequently fired on hazing allegations.
