MAAA Conference Boys Championship Decided in Overtime, Potosi Trojans Win First Tournament Title Since 2014

(Park Hills, MO) The 3-Potosi Trojans stun the top seeded Central Rebels for a second time this season with an overtime victory in the MAAA Conference Championship Game Saturday night, 70-68.

Carter Whitley scored the game winning bucket just before the end of overtime, after briskly dribbling up the length of the floor. Whitley was left with enough time to maneuver around defenders after a straight on 3-pointer by Central’s Chris LaChance swished through the rim with 10 seconds left in the extra frame.

Whitley finished the night with a Trojan high of 26 points. Gabe Brawley contributed 15 points.

Potosi Freshman Kanaan Wilson sent to game overtime after a right corner 3-pointer with two seconds left on the clock. Central was able to get a time out with 0.9 left on the clock before the expiration of regulation, but weren’t able to draw up a play to beat the clock before OT.

Kanaan Wilson was 3-for-3 from perimeter and tallied 13 points in the victory.

Conaway, after the game, spoke about getting Wilson the ball to force an extra period.
