MAAA Conference Tournament First Round Games Feature ‘Upset’, and Comeback Wins

(Potosi, MO) The MAAA Conference Tournament First round games were held in two locations Saturday. Potosi High School was the site of the Boys side of the Tournament, while the four Girls games were held at Kingston High School.

Boys First Round (@ Potosi)

5-Ste. Genevieve 70, 12-Bismarck 56

The Bismarck Indians entered the first quarter break with a four point lead (18-14), but the Ste. Genevieve Dragons countered with a 23-14 second quarter and 37-32 lead at halftime.

Tucker Reed led the Dragons to victory with a double-double of 21 points, and 11 rebounds. Reed was 10-of-15 from the field in the win. Aiden Meyer added 11 points, and Alex Basler had 10.

Ste. Genevieve (7-12) outscored Bismarck in the second half 33-24 and move on to face 4-Kingston Monday night at Mineral Area College.

The Indians were led in scoring by Sven Wilson’s game leading 25 points, and Daven Miller contributed 18 points.

Bismarck (6-11) falls to the consolation bracket and will play 8-Valle Catholic on Wednesday at Mineral Area College. The two have met once this season with Valle gaining he edge, 68-59.

6-West County 71, 11-Valley Caledonia 62

The West County Bulldogs used a 28-12 fourth quarter to cancel a would-be upset by the Valley Caledonia Vikings. Valley led 38-31 at halftime, then 50-43 after three quarters.

Garrison Turner paced the Bulldogs with 21 points, Jaxon Campbell finished with 12 points, Levi Hale contributed 11 points, and Nolan Rawson added 10. West County made 50-percent of shots taken (28-of-56).

The Bulldogs (12-9) get a rematch with 3-Potosi on Tuesday at Mineral Area College. The first meeting between West County and Potosi was held at MAC on December 16 with the Trojans winning 61-49.

Kaiden Dickey led the Vikings with 16 points, Chayse DeClue added 13, and Drew McClain finished with 12 points. Valley (11-10) were 0-for-10 from perimeter in the second half and 3-for-19 overall.

Valley Caledonia will play Wednesday against 10-North County in the consolation bracket semifinals.

7-Arcadia Valley 58, 10-North County 39

The Arcadia Valley Tigers outpaced the North County Raiders in each quarter to advance to the quarterfinals.

Gavan Douglas’s 22 points, and Nolan Inman’s 14 proved too tough to handle for the North County defense. Arcadia Valley shooters made 51-percent of shots taken, which canceled the 16 total turnovers in the game.

The Tigers (9-10) advances to face 2-Farmington for the first time this season Tuesday night at Mineral Area College.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Jaxon Scherffius who finished the game with 7 points.

North County (2-16) will face 11-Valley Caledonia on Wednesday.

9-Fredericktown 42, 8-Valle Catholic 38

The Fredericktown Blackcats became the only low seed in both the Boys, and Girls brackets to prevail over a higher seed, doing so against the Valle Catholic Warriors.

Blake Terry-Brakefield, and Caleb Feltz each had 12 points in the win, while Tim DeSanto added 10 points.

Fredericktown (6-11) used a 13-4 third quarter to break through after trailing at halftime 28-24. Total scoring in the second half favored the Cats 18-8.

The Blackcats will play 1-Central in the Quarterfinals Monday night at Mineral Area College.

Valle Catholic (7-15) had a game high 13 points from Tyler Gegg, and Colin Henderson contributed 12 points.

The Warriors fall to the consolation bracket and play 12-Bismarck on Wednesday.

Girls First Round (@ Kingston)

Each of the higher seeds in the Girls Bracket advanced on Saturday.

5-Fredericktown 52, 12-Kingston 18

6-Valle Catholic 53, 11-Valley Caledonia 20

7-Ste. Genevieve 65, 10-West County 33

8-Bismarck 60, 9-Potosi 50

Fredericktown will play 4-North County Monday at Mineral Area College, while 8-Bismarck faces 1-Central Monday as well.

6-Valle Catholic gets a big rematch with 3-Arcadia Valley, and 7-Ste. Genevieve meets 2-Farmington. Both quarterfinals will be played Tuesday.

9-Potosi vs 12-Kingston, and 10-West County vs 11-Valley Caledonia will each be played Wednesday in the consolation bracket.


All winners bracket games including 3rd place Games will be broadcasted live on AM-1240 KFMO.
