MAAA Conference Tournament Seeds Hold Through Pool Play; Bracket Play Starts Wednesday

MAAA Conference Pool Play Action wrapped up on Tuesday and the seeds hold as teams get set for Bracket play that begins Wednesday.

In Pool A, the top seed Valle Catholic Lady Warriors handled both 8-Arcadia Valley and 9-North County in straight sets each. The Lady Warriors faced little pressure against the Lady Raiders winning 25-7, 25-7, while the Lady Tigers, coming off a three set win over North County, 23-25, 25-10, 15-12, were slow out of the gate against Valle. The Lady Warriors topped AV 25-11, 25-18.

Pool B in Potosi featured a trio of straight set wins. The second-seeded Lady Trojans got Ava Robart back for the first time since her injury suffered in the win over Farmington on October 3. Ava Robart led Potosi hitters with 16 kills as the Lady Trojans topped 10-West County 25-16, 25-15.

Eden Robart led Potosi attackers in their second match against 7-Fredericktown with 17 kills as the Lady Trojans topped the Lady Blackcats 25-16, 25-13.

Fredericktown also beat West County 25-18, 25-19. In both losses, the Lady Bulldogs led the opening set by five or more points at some point in the sets.

3-Ste. Genevieve, 6-Central and 11-Valley Caledonia were in Ste. Genevieve for Pool C that featured two Dragon victories.

Ste. Gen dispatched Valley Caledonia in the opening match 25-9, 25-8, and outlasted Central in the final match 31-29, 25-20.

Dragons head coach Carla Basler collected her 100th victory in the opening game, and Sophia Huck finished the evening with 63 aces on the season, which set a new mark for aces in a season by a Dragon. The record broken by Huck was held by Maya Watts, who had finished a season with 60 aces.

The Lady Rebels beat Valley in three sets 25-6, 25-9.

In Pool D, the fourth-seeded Farmington Knights beat 12-Kingston 25-11, 25-14, and topped 5-Bismarck 25-17, 25-22 to clinch a spot in the Championship Bracket.

Bismarck also beat Kingston 25-10, 25-7.

The field is set for bracket play that begins Wednesday. North County hosts the Bronze Bracket that features the Lady Raiders, West County, Valley Caledonia and Kingston. Those teams will play for 9th place.

Bismarck hosts Arcadia Valley, Central and Fredericktown in the Silver Bracket playing for 5th Place.

The Gold Bracket will be played at Valle Catholic High School on Thursday. Two Semifinals will be played first, then the 3rd Place Game, followed by the Championship Game. 1-Valle Catholic faces 4-Farmington for the first time this season at 4:00pm. Then 2-Potosi gets a rematch with 3-Ste. Genevieve at 5:15pm.

The 3rd Place Game will be played at 6:30pm, and the Championship at 7:45pm.

KFMO Sports will provide coverage beginning at 3:30pm on AM-1240 KFMO, online at kfmosports.com, and on the KFMO App. Live video will be provided on kfmosports.com as well, but the MAAA Conference requires a $5 pay-per-view fee to view each game.
