Mia Monges Contributes Double-Double, Central Beats Potosi on Thursday

Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - The Central Lady Rebels were led by Mia Monges on Thursday night in their win over the Potosi Lady Trojans, 56-46.

Monges finished off a strong performance on both ends of the floor with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Rebels kept their regular season conference hopes alive.

Allysa O’Connor was a good secondary threat with 13 points, and Morgan Populis added nine.

Central held a 10 point lead, 29-19, at halftime, but Potosi wasn’t going anywhere. The Lady Trojans cut into the deficit with a 14-10 advantage in the third quarter and drew within a possession of the Central lead before Monges knocked down a pair of big 3-pointers swinging momentum back on the side of the Lady Rebels.

Potosi’s leading scorer, Anniston Mapes finished the night with 17 points, but fouled out late in the final quarter. Eden Robart had nine points.

With the win, Central draws even with both Fredericktown and Potosi a top the MAAA Large School Conference.

Central (12-4, 3-1) hosts Farmington Monday, while Potosi (14-3, 3-1) is at Ste. Genevieve.

Fredericktown, who used an 18-0 second half run to beat Farmington Thursday night, will play North County on Monday.

If all three of Central, Potosi and Fredericktown win, they will share the MAAA Conference Regular Season Title. The MAAA Conference Tournament seeds on Wednesday, February 5.
