Mineral Area Lady Cardinals Top Jefferson Lady Vikings in Tight Matinee Battle, 68-63

(Hillsboro, MO) The Mineral Area Lady Cardinals get back in the win column after Saturday's road victory at Jefferson College, beating the Lady Vikings 68-63.

MAC sophomore Audra Pasakarnis knocked down a left corner 3-point shot with under a minute left in regulation, terminating any JeffCo hope of overtime. Pasakarnis led the Lady Cards with 16 points in the win.

The game was as close as possible without being tied through the first three quarters. MAC led after the first period 12-11. However, the Jefferson offense began to run through sophomore Jakayla Kirk in the second quarter as she knocked down a late 3-pointer giving the Lady Vikings a halftime lead 31-30.

Kirk ended the exciting matinee matchup between former Region 16 DI Rivals with a double-double performance of 35 points and 10 rebounds.

JeffCo got the lead at halftime with a 20-18 quarter, but MAC reversed the quarter scoring in the third to take a one point lead 50-49.

The Lady Cardinals outscored Jefferson College in the fourth quarter 18-14 securing the five point win. Ashley Buragas contributed 13 points in the win, while Telia Graham potted 10 of her 12 total points in the second half. Katelyn Chomko totaled 11 points while battling foul trouble in the fourth quarter.

Chaniya Felton was the only other Lady Viking in double-digit scoring, with 14 points.

The Lady Cards lost a week prior to this game at State Fair and fell in the National Ranking to 17th. MAC is at Three Rivers Wednesday in a broadcast doubleheader from Libla Family Sports Complex. The Lady Cards and Lady Raiders tip off at 5:00pm with broadcast coverage beginning around 4:30pm on KFMO and KFMOsportsPLUS.
