(Park Hills, MO) The fifth seeded Potosi Trojans defeated the 12 seed Herculaneum Blackcats in a 91-31 blowout victory. Potosi shot 54% from the field while going 5 of 10 from the free-throw line and collecting 37 rebounds.
The Trojans took a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter before Herculaneum tried to even the score, bringing it to 10-8. Unfortunately for the Blackcats, they wouldn’t score again in the quarter while Potosi would go on to score 22. The score sat at a whopping 51-15 at the end of the first half. The Trojans continued their dominance into the second half where they outscored the Blackcats 20-11 in the third quarter and 39-16 overall.
Herculaneum was led in scoring by Tanner Duncan, putting up 8 points. Carter Whitley led the Trojans on the scoresheet, putting up 18 points and producing multiple turnovers. Whitley was helped by Gabe Brawley who put up 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Luke Brabham also put up 10 and grabbed 5 rebounds. Only one player on the Potosi roster did not record a point.
Potosi will play the Hillsboro Hawks on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 5:30pm in the quarter final round of the tournament. Herculaneum will play the Crystal City Hornets on Wednesday, Dec. 27th at 2:30pm in the consolation bracket.
