Battlehawks Easily Win Home Opener, Improve to 2-0

St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - The St. Louis Battlehawks impressed in their home opener Sunday, defeating the San Antonio Brahmas 26-9.

St. Louis (2-0) struck first at the end of the first quarter, picking up a 45-yard field goal. The Battlehawks would then find the endzone twice in the second quarter, both touchdowns picked up by running back Jacob Saylors. San Antonio (0-2) hit a field goal as time expired in the first half to cut the lead to 17-3.

In the second half, St. Louis would score on another Saylors rushing touchdown to increase their lead to 23-3, before finally giving up a touchdown themselves. The Brahmas added another field goal, but the Battlehawks moved into victory formation and ran out the rest of the clock for a 26-9 win.

Saylors, in addition to his three rushing touchdowns, ran for 54 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Manny Wilkins completed 12 of 16 passes for 162 yards. Defensively, cornerback Brandon Sebastian recorded an interception, a highlight reel play that led to a St. Louis field goal.

The Battlehawks play again at home next week against the D.C. Defenders. The game is set to air Sunday at 2 p.m. on ABC.
