Blues Relieve Drew Bannister of Duties, Hire Jim Montgomery

(New York, NY) The St. Louis Blues organization announced on Sunday it had relieved Drew Bannister from his duties as head coach and replaced him with former Blues Assistant, Jim Montgomery.

Montgomery was an assistant with the Blues from 2020-2022. He was spent the last two full NHL seasons as the head coach of the Boston Bruins where he was fired on Wednesday of last week.

Montgomery posted a 120-41-23 record with the Bruins that included the best season in NHL history in 2022-23, 65-12-5.

Drew Bannister was fired after just 22 games as head coach with a record of 9-12-1. Bannister was signed to a two-year contract in the offseason after being promoted to interim head coach last year after the Blues fired Craig Berube.

Montgomery and the Blues agreed to a 5-year contract on Sunday.
