Cardinals' Bullpen Shines as Birds Take Series

St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) – The St. Louis Cardinals earn a series win over the San Francisco Giants this weekend at Busch Stadium.

The Giants took the first game of the series on Friday 8-2, after a rough fourth inning from Michael McGreevy where San Francisco scored four runs. The Cardinals were held to just five hits.

St. Louis rebounded in the second and third games of the series 3-2 and 4-3. Jordan Walker’s walk-off two-run single in the ninth inning finished off a three-run inning. Thomas Saggese singled with the bases loaded to start the scoring in the inning.

Sonny Gray pitched into the sixth inning of the series finale to earn the win. He allowed three runs, all in the sixth, on just two hits to earn his 13th win of the year. The Cardinals scored all four runs on Sunday in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lars Nootbaar and Ivan Herrera each singled in a run, Nolan Gorman walked with the bases loaded, and Mason Winn grounded out with the bases loaded.

The Redbird bullpen pitched 3.2 innings of no-hit ball to close out the game, Riley O’Brien collected his third save.

St. Louis (72-72) begin a series at Seattle Monday on B104.3. Coverage begins at 7:45p.m.
