Cardinals Defeat Brewers in Extras

Milwaukee, Wi. (KFMO) - They needed 12 innings to do it, but the St. Louis Cardinals evened the midweek series with the Milwaukee Brewers, knocking off the NL Central leaders 7-4 on Tuesday.

Despite the scoreline, this game was tied at only 3-3 after 9 innings, with the Brewers tying things up way back in the 5th. The Cardinals broke that tie in the 11th on an RBI single from Paul Goldschmidt, but the Brewers broke through Ryan Helsley to square things up at 4 in the bottom half of the inning.

Fortunately for the Redbirds, they'd keep their offensive momentum going in the 12th. Michael Siani picked up his only hit of the night, a 2RBI liner to left to take a 6-4 lead, followed by a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson to take the 7-4 advantage. Helsley came back on for the bottom of the 12th, and was able to shut the Brewers down this time around to close out the game.

Helsley earned the win for St. Louis, his record stands at 7-4, but he also earns his fourth blown save of the season. Elvis Peguero takes the loss for the Brewers.

The Cardinals have reached 70 wins for the year, they're now 70-69. The final game of the series is slated for today. Pregame will begin at 5:45PM, first pitch at 6:40, on B104.3.
