Cardinals Drop Important Series Opener to NL Central Leading Brewers

(St. Louis, MO) The St. Louis Cardinals drop the first game of an important three game series with the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 Tuesday night. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman both struck out in the bottom of the 9th inning stranding the bases loaded. Redbird Manager Oliver Marmol, says it was another night where the offense didn’t do enough.

St. Louis totaled just six hits, including Matt Carpenter’s pinch-hit two-run homerun in the bottom of the 8th. Nolan Arenado doubled as the only other extra base hit for the Cards.

Erick Fedde falls to 8-7 after taking the loss. He allowed two runs through 5.2 innings and walked four batters.

Milwaukee’s William Contreras was 3-for-4 at the plate. Frankie Montas picked up his sixth win of the year allowing just one hit over seven innings of work.

The Cardinals fall to 61-64 and sit 12 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central Division race, and six games out of a wild card spot. Marmol says although the standings look bleak, all his team can do is fight each day.

The second game of the series is tonight on B104.3 at 5:50pm.
